My Letter to The Ontario Human Rights Commission

July 4, 2006

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am writing this letter to you on a referral from the Upper Canada Law Society.

Over the past four years I have been having problems with the law, Children’s Aid, the School System and the medical community concerning my daughter, Monica, who developed serious health problems, had a stroke and has slowly lost her hearing.

When my daughter’s health began to deteriorate I tried to help her by home schooling her to relieve the stress of the bullying problems she encountered everyday when she went to school and to give her some time to heal. At the time I was living in Aurora and was unable to find a medical attention for her. I took a long drive to Toronto Sick Children’s Hospital one night where absolutely none of my prayers were answered.

A short time after I started to home school, Children’s Aid stepped into my home. They totally destroyed my daughter’s life. I was taken to Court four times on home school issues and mandated to send my sick child back to school. Her health deteriorated and she is now deaf and still struggling with health problems, but she is forced to go to school by a system that refuses to acknowledge her illness and how she is suffering physically, emotionally and health wise by being forced to attend school every day.

I am attaching a few letters that I have written for your information and wonder if there is any help out there for my daughter at all?

By the way, it is an option to home school. Are you sure? There are home school groups throughout York Region, but in Aurora home schooling is a criminal offense. It was for me, not for all the rest of the parents who have been home schooling their children for years and years. I thought laws were standard across the land. Apparently not.

I have a daughter named Monica. She is 14 years old now. She was taken when she was 12 from her adopted father. I have no legal rights. I however stayed in her life as her mother. I find these storys very painful.
